Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is expanding his probe of state school districts and officials after reports of male high school athletes sharing rooms with female athletes on school trips. Paxton’s investigations of the Hutto Independent School District and the Richardson Independent School District aim to determine if Texas laws protecting women’s athletics were violated. He warns that officials endangering female athletes by allowing boys to play in girls’ sports will face consequences. The Hutto district’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Director, Keyawna Glaze, resigned after advising parents to change a male student’s sex on his birth certificate to allow him to compete against females. Meanwhile, the Richardson district’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Director, Angie Lee, implied that male students could stay overnight with female students on school trips and participate in girls’ sports, actions also caught on film. Paxton is concerned that these incidents reflect a broader effort by school districts to ignore the law. The investigations come after Paxton previously looked into the Dallas and Richardson Independent School Districts. His office is thoroughly reviewing the documents to address any systemic violations of the law and ensure that those responsible face justice. The controversy highlights ongoing challenges faced by female athletes and the importance of upholding the integrity of women’s athletics in the state.
