Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is investigating multiple North Texas school districts over allegations that they are allowing boys to play on girls’ sports teams, in violation of state law. Last week, Paxton requested documents from the Dallas and Irving school districts to ensure compliance with the law. He has also reached out to the Hutto and Richardson school districts after videos surfaced showing administrators discussing how transgender students could participate in sports according to their gender identity.
Paxton emphasized the importance of upholding the law and protecting female athletes from unfair competition. The Richardson ISD and Hutto ISD deny any wrongdoing and state that they follow Texas law and UIL guidelines for student-athletes.
In one instance, Richardson ISD’s Equity Director is said to have suggested allowing a male student to share a hotel room with female students on a school trip, hinting at a potential violation of the law. Hutto ISD’s Diversity Director reportedly advised parents on ways to change a student’s birth certificate gender to allow them to participate in girls’ sports.
Both districts have pledged to adhere to Texas laws and UIL policies, with Hutto ISD clarifying that the administrator in question no longer works for the district. Paxton’s office remains committed to investigating the matter thoroughly to ensure that any violations of the law are addressed appropriately.
