A surrogacy money scandal has left hundreds of hopeful parents in a nightmare situation after an escrow company in Texas allegedly mishandled over $10 million. Six couples from New Jersey, New York, and the West Coast are among the victims who trusted the company, Surrogacy Escrow Account Management LLC (SEAM), with their funds.
Laura Daniels and Christopher Cheng, one of the couples affected, relied on a surrogate to carry their son, Koda, due to medical reasons. However, their trust was shattered when they learned their surrogate had not been paid. Other families, like one from Long Island, are also missing thousands of dollars intended for their surrogates.
SEAM’s owner, Dominique Side, who presented herself as a former surrogate wanting to help others, is now under scrutiny for allegedly misappropriating funds to finance her lavish lifestyle and other business ventures. A lawsuit filed in Texas claims that as much as $10 million was taken from 600 escrow accounts, affecting clients globally.
The FBI has launched an inquiry and is seeking additional victims as the investigation unfolds. Many affected individuals are seeking answers and justice as they face financial uncertainty and emotional turmoil. The freezing of SEAM’s bank accounts and multiple lawsuits demonstrate the seriousness of the situation. Victims are hoping to recover their funds and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
