A woman from Memphis who is banned from all Walmart stores in the U.S. was arrested for shoplifting packs of ramen noodles and other items using a self-checkout scam at a South Memphis location. She was charged with criminal trespass and theft of merchandise worth less than $1,000. The woman, known as a “known shoplifter,” was caught on camera using an old watch battery to scan items for $1 each at the self-checkout. She stole 11 packs of ramen noodles, boots, jeans, and a t-shirt totaling $137.34. Another woman involved stole items totaling $57.86. Court records show that this was not the first time the banned woman was caught shoplifting, as she has previous convictions for stealing from various stores in Memphis. Walmart stated that they value their customers and employees and want them to have a pleasant shopping experience, and that instances like this are rare but can lead to individuals being banned from their stores. The banned woman has a history of shoplifting, with multiple convictions for theft of merchandise under $1,000 from different stores in the Shelby County area.
