Dr. Andrew Campbell of Ohio has been charged with arson for allegedly setting another local doctor’s house on fire on Dec. 7. The fire at Dr. Tahir Jamil’s home was determined to be intentional, leading to Campbell being indicted on six counts of aggravated arson on Feb. 12. There is speculation that the motive behind the arson may be connected to an affair between Dr. Jamil and Campbell’s wife.
Both doctors were affiliated with the University of Toledo, with Campbell being a fellow in the Hematology-Oncology program and Jamil being a clinical associate professor in the College of Medicine and Life Sciences. Following the charges, Campbell was placed on administrative leave without pay, while Jamil was also placed on administrative leave from his unpaid, volunteer faculty position pending an investigation into allegations of improper conduct.
The Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office declined to comment further on the ongoing case as Campbell is scheduled for arraignment on Feb. 24. It is unclear who is representing Campbell in court. The University of Toledo did not provide additional comments on the situation.
The case gained attention after reports of a suspected attack in Munich where a driver crashed into protesters injuring 28 people. The connection between the two incidents remains unclear. Saleen Martin, a reporter for USA TODAY, can be contacted for further information.
