The Dallas Mavericks are revisiting their fan ejection policy after multiple fans were removed from the American Airlines Center for NBA Code of Conduct violations. Sources within the team have told FOX 4 that fans will not automatically be thrown out for wearing signs or shirts that are deemed inappropriate, as long as they respect the safety of other fans and the building. Signs larger than 11×17 are not allowed by the NBA, and any signs or clothing with obscene or indecent messages will not be permitted. The NBA Code of Conduct will be posted throughout the AAC for fans to view.
Fans have been ejected in recent games for displaying signs that said “Fire Nico” and for wearing a shirt depicting Mavs owner Miriam Adelson as a clown. The team stated that these ejections were due to violations of the Code of Conduct, which prohibits signs with explicit language, profanity, or derogatory characterizations of individuals. Dallas Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont also addressed low morale within the organization in a recent internal message to employees.
Coach Jason Kidd, amidst a tough loss to the Sacramento Kings and controversy surrounding fan ejections, explained his decision to skip post-game interviews on Monday. Despite the team grappling with fan behavior and morale, the Mavericks are committed to upholding a respectful and safe environment for all fans attending their games.
