Texas Tech baseball suffered a disappointing loss in their home opener against the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). The Red Raiders were defeated by a score of 7-5 in front of a crowd of 3,845 at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.

UTSA got off to a strong start, scoring four runs in the second inning to take a commanding lead. Texas Tech battled back with a run in the third and two runs in the fourth, but UTSA responded with three more runs in the fifth to extend their lead. The Red Raiders made a late push, scoring two runs in the ninth inning, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.

Texas Tech struggled at the plate, managing just seven hits in the game. Freshman Kayden Voelkel led the team with two hits and two RBIs. On the mound, starter Cal Conley had a rough outing, giving up five runs on seven hits in just three innings of work. Reliever Ryan Sublette also struggled, allowing two runs on three hits in two innings.

Despite the loss, Texas Tech head coach Tim Tadlock remained optimistic about his team’s potential. He praised his players for their resilience and fighting spirit, noting that there were still plenty of games left in the season.

The Red Raiders will look to bounce back in their next game against UTSA, which will also be played at Dan Law Field. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the team as they look to rebound from their home opener loss.
