The United States Air Force identified Brion Teel-Scott, a 27-year-old from New Jersey, as the airman killed in a shooting outside Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico. The incident occurred after an attempted detention near the Truman Gate in Albuquerque, resulting in a pursuit that led to the shooting. Another airman was injured in the incident but has been released from the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Air Force has not released details on the circumstances of the shooting or who shot Teel-Scott, citing an ongoing investigation by the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, FBI, and Albuquerque Police Department. Teel-Scott was a member of the 377th Security Forces Squadron. Col. Michael Power, the Installation commander, expressed condolences for the loss and reassured that support for the injured airman, Teel-Scott’s colleagues, and the base community is being provided. The cause of Teel-Scott’s death remains under investigation. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday and there is no threat to the public.
