Garland police officers responded to multiple 911 calls about a man firing weapons in the street. Upon arrival, the suspect shot at and injured an officer who was inside his vehicle. The injured officer was able to seek safety and was taken to the hospital in stable condition. The suspect was later shot and killed by other officers after an exchange of gunfire. The suspect was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries.
Police believe there are no other suspects involved in the incident and do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public. The identities of the injured officer and suspect have not been released to the public, and investigators are working to determine the suspect’s motive.
Garland Lt. Pedro Barineau emphasized that police officers understand the risks involved in their job but are dedicated to serving and protecting their community.
