Dallas leaders and stakeholders are coming together to address the imminent closure of the Downtown Dallas Neiman Marcus, a local landmark that has been a part of the community for over 100 years. The news conference, scheduled to take place in front of the store at 10 a.m., will emphasize the importance of preserving this historical establishment.
The closure comes less than a year after Neiman Marcus merged with Saks Fifth Avenue, with the company citing a lease dispute as the reason for shutting down their CityPlace offices and flagship store in downtown Dallas. Despite more than a decade of negotiations, the landlord has requested the termination of their occupancy, ultimately forcing the closure by March 31, 2025.
The original Neiman Marcus store dates back to 1907 at the intersection of Elm Street and North Field Street, with a new location opening in 1914 at Main Street and Ervay Street. The company has faced financial challenges, filing for bankruptcy protection in May 2020 during the pandemic but successfully exiting bankruptcy later that year.
The acquisition by Saks Fifth Avenue was finalized in December 2024 for $2.7 billion, leading to the planned closure of the Downtown Dallas location. This move has sparked disappointment among stakeholders, who are rallying to save this iconic piece of Neiman Marcus history.
The news conference will feature speakers including Jennifer Scripps, President & CEO of Downtown Dallas, Inc., as well as representatives from the City of Dallas and other key organizations. The event will be live streamed for those unable to attend in person.
