A couple in The Colony, Texas, Brandy Bristol and Jeremy Bristol, are facing serious criminal charges for animal cruelty after investigators discovered animals living in deplorable conditions inside their home. The Colony police arrested the couple on Tuesday and charged them with 12 counts of animal cruelty, each of which is a third-degree felony. If convicted, they could face up to 10 years in prison for each charge. The couple had 88 animals seized from their home, including dogs, cats, reptiles, and mice.
The animals were rescued from the Bristol’s home on Alta Oaks Lane after The Colony Animal Services received a tip. The conditions inside the house were described as “deplorable” by Sgt. James Barfield of The Colony Police Department. During a court hearing, investigators revealed that 21 dead cats were found in trash bags in the Bristol’s freezer. The judge ultimately awarded custody of all the animals, including the six the couple hoped to regain, to The Colony animal shelter and other nonprofit animal welfare organizations.
The Colony Police Department provided the information for this news update, along with past news coverage. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of proper animal care and the consequences of neglect. The community is urged to report any suspicions of animal cruelty to authorities to prevent similar incidents in the future.
