A Wylie man, Caleb McCray, has been arrested and charged in Louisiana for his involvement in the death of a fraternity pledge during a hazing ritual. McCray and two other men wearing boxing gloves punched a pledge member in the chest multiple times, resulting in a seizure and ultimately the young man’s death. McCray now faces charges of felony criminal hazing and manslaughter. Chief TJ Morse of the Baton Rouge Police Department stated that McCray is the first arrest in connection to the incident and that multiple investigations are ongoing. The victim, Caleb Wilson, was a junior engineering student and marching band member at Southern University. He was dropped off at the emergency room with a false story, claiming he collapsed while playing basketball. However, it was later revealed that Wilson and other pledges were subjected to a violent hazing ritual involving repeated chest punches. Wilson ultimately suffered a seizure and died as a result. The loss has deeply impacted the Southern University community, with the university band holding a vigil in his honor. McCray’s attorney maintains his client’s innocence and is reviewing all evidence. Southern University has paused membership intake for campus organizations while investigations progress. This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of hazing and the need for accountability in such practices.
