Xavier Worthy, wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, was released after a Texas district attorney declined to pursue charges against him for felony domestic violence. The Williamson County District Attorney stated that they were not accepting the case at this time after speaking with witnesses and that Worthy and his lawyers were cooperating with the investigation. Worthy had been arrested on a charge of assault on a family or household member in which their breath was impeded, but the case was later updated to “dismissed/declined.” His lawyers stated that the allegation was made by a female living in Worthy’s home who had been asked to leave due to infidelity issues. Despite the incident, Worthy did not want to press charges against the woman.
The Chiefs, Worthy’s team, stated they were aware of the situation and gathering information. Worthy, who was picked in the first round of the draft last year, had a successful season with the Chiefs, becoming their go-to wide receiver. He finished the season with impressive stats, including two touchdowns in the Super Bowl despite the team’s loss.
The Chiefs had relied on Worthy after another wide receiver, Rashee Rice, was injured in a car crash in Dallas. Rice is facing civil lawsuits and criminal charges for his role in the wreck. Despite the off-field issues, Worthy remains a key player for the Chiefs as they look to make another run for a Super Bowl title.
