Amber Paige Laudermilk, a former embalmer at Memorial Mortuary & Crematory in Houston, Texas, has been charged with abusing a corpse after allegedly castrating the body of a registered sex offender, Charles Roy Rodriguez. Rodriguez, who died of natural causes in January, had a history of sexual assault.
Witnesses at the mortuary reported seeing Laudermilk using a scalpel to remove Rodriguez’s penis and place it in his mouth. She allegedly threatened one witness not to report the incident. The Funeral Director at Claire Brothers Funeral Home filed a complaint with police.
Constable Alan Rosen of Harris County Precinct One emphasized the need to treat all deceased individuals with dignity, regardless of their past actions. Laudermilk, who is not currently in custody, is expected to turn herself in.
Both Memorial Mortuary & Crematory and Laudermilk have not responded to requests for comment. The shocking case has garnered national attention, with NBC News reporting on the disturbing incident. The motive behind Laudermilk’s actions remains unclear, but the case highlights the importance of respecting the deceased and upholding the law in all circumstances.
