EU to retaliate with tariffs on $28 billion worth of US products

The European Union is set to impose counter tariffs on $28 billion worth of U.S. goods starting next month in response to U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminium. The EU remains open to negotiations, but considers higher tariffs not in anyone’s interest. The EU’s tariffs will be fully in place by April 13, targeting products like boats, bourbon, and motorbikes. A consultation will be held to select additional product categories to impose tariffs on. The overall objective is to ensure that the total value of the EU measures corresponds to the increased value of trade impacted by the new U.S. tariffs. The EU is willing to engage in meaningful dialogue, aiming to avoid burdening economies with tariffs. Proposed target products for tariffs include industrial and agricultural goods like steel, aluminium, textiles, home appliances, poultry, beef, eggs, dairy, sugar, and vegetables.
