Beloved actor Nathan Lane recently shared a touching tribute to the late Gene Hackman, whom he starred alongside in the 1996 film “The Birdcage.” During an appearance on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” Lane spoke about his admiration for Hackman and how it was a dream come true to work with him. Lane recalled their time filming the comedy and shared how Hackman was a brilliant actor who seamlessly transitioned between comedy and drama.
Lane also mentioned a scene where he and Hackman shared a dance and a brief flirtation, showcasing their on-screen chemistry. His tribute comes just weeks after Hackman’s passing at the age of 95, followed by the death of his wife, Betsy Arakawa. The New Mexico Chief Medical Examiner revealed that Hackman was in poor health before his passing due to heart problems and advanced Alzheimer’s disease.
Arakawa’s death was attributed to Hantavirus – a flu-like illness spread by rodent feces. The couple’s dog, Zinna, was also found dead in the same bathroom as Arakawa. Authorities believe Arakawa passed away roughly a week before Hackman. Lane’s heartfelt tribute to Hackman highlights the great loss the entertainment industry suffered with the passing of the legendary actor and offers insight into the bond they shared while making “The Birdcage” together.
