Robert Morris surrenders in Oklahoma on charges related to child sexual abuse – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Robert Morris, the former pastor of Gateway Church in Dallas, surrendered to authorities in Oklahoma on child sexual abuse charges. The 63-year-old was charged with five counts of lewd acts with a child in Osage County. Morris resigned from his position at Gateway Church last year after a woman accused him of sexually abusing her in the 1980s. The woman, Cindy Clemishire, came forward with her story on a church watchdog site, stating that the abuse started when she was 12 years old.

Morris surrendered his passport and paid a $50,000 bond set by a judge. His attorney anticipates entering a not guilty plea on his behalf. Clemishire expressed gratitude to the authorities for their work on the case and hopes for justice to prevail. She stated that it took almost 43 years for the law to catch up with Morris for the crimes committed against her as a child.

Morris, known for his political activism, could face up to 20 years in prison for each of the charges. He hosted President Donald Trump at Gateway Church in 2020 for a discussion on race relations and the economy. The case against Morris highlights the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions, especially in cases of abuse of power.
