Bears Split Rematches with LSU and Texas, Ranked No. 9 and No. 10


The No. 9 California beach volleyball team participated in the East vs West Invitational in Austin, Texas, where they split their two duals. They defeated host Longhorns with a 3-2 win but lost to LSU with the same score. Graduate student Sierra Caffo reached 75 career wins, with 49 of them coming during her time at Cal. The Bears had a strong showing, with wins from Caffo, Gia Fisher, Marilu Pally, and Ella Dreibholz, but narrowly missed the clinch in their first match. Against Texas, they bounced back with a win, led by Fisher and Caffo on court two. The team’s top duo Portia Sherman and Emma Donley secured the win for Cal in dominant fashion. The team will face No. 20 FIU and No. 18 Georgia State in upcoming matches.

In their match against LSU, Parker Bracken and Gabi Bailey of LSU defeated Donley and Sherman of Cal, while Fisher and Caffo won their match against Aubrey and Julia Specher of LSU. The LSU pair of Elle Evers and Camryn Chatellier defeated Alex Adishian and Christine DeRoos of Cal. However, Pally and Dreibholz of Cal secured a victory against Katie Baker and Tatum Finlason of LSU. LSU’s Skyler Martin and Emily Meyer defeated Ella Sears and Jenna Colligan of Cal.

In the match against Texas, Donley and Sherman of Cal won against Chloe Charles and Eva Kuivonen of Texas, while Fisher and Caffo secured a victory over Emma Grace Robertson and Katie Hashman of Texas. Texas’ Karin Zolnercikova and Maddison Parmelly defeated DeRoos and Adishian of Cal, while Macey Butler and Noa Sonneville of Texas won against Pally and Dreibholz of Cal. Colligan and Sears of Cal won their match against Carys Patton and Vivian Johnson of Texas.
