The 2025 Tbilisi Grand Slam kicked off with an exciting display of judo action, with athletes from around the world showcasing their skills. Mongolia’s Ganbaatar Narantsetseg, France’s Luka Mkheidze, and Amandine Buchard all had standout performances, but it was Georgia’s Eteri Liparteliani who stole the show with a thrilling comeback to secure the host nation’s first gold. The event, held in judo-crazy Georgia, also featured a book signing with double Olympic champion Lasha Bekauri, adding to the excitement for young fans. Narantsetseg secured a gold medal in the -48kg category, while Mkheidze and Buchard also claimed victories in their respective weight classes. However, it was Abrek Naguchev who broke Georgian hearts by defeating home favorite Temur Nozadze in the -66kg category. Liparteliani, competing in the -57kg category, showed incredible determination to turn the contest in her favor and claim victory, much to the delight of the home crowd. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including IJF Education & Coaching Director Mohammed Meridja and Georgian National Olympic Committee President Leri Khabelov, who awarded the medals to the deserving winners. The Tbilisi Grand Slam will continue with the middle-weights competing for gold, promising more electrifying judo action in the days to come.
