Region previously hit by tornadoes faces new threat from severe storms

Tornadoes can occur anywhere at any time, but different regions have peak months for tornado activity. In the Mississippi Valley and South, tornado season is typically in the spring. Recently, damaging winds and tornadoes have been forecasted for these regions, following a deadly tornado outbreak that killed over 40 people in several states.

A front bringing heavy rain and hail has been expanding, drawing warm, humid air from the Gulf of Mexico. Severe weather is expected in several states including Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, and Texas, with wind gusts up to 70 mph possible. In addition, a weather system farther north is expected to bring moderate to heavy snow across the upper Midwest and upper Great Lakes.

On Monday, the risk of severe weather will extend to Gulf Coast states as the systems merge. Snow is expected in upstate New York and interior New England. Dry and windy conditions in parts of North Carolina have led to a risk of wildfires, with a statewide ban on all open burning. South Carolina has also declared a state of emergency due to high wildfire risks.

Overall, it is important for residents in these regions to stay informed about weather conditions and take necessary precautions to stay safe during tornado season.
