Arkansas State Suffers Tough Loss to North Texas in NIT Second Round


Arkansas State fell to North Texas in a heartbreaking 65-63 loss in the second round of the 2025 National Invitation Tournament (NIT). The game ended with North Texas sinking a game-winning shot with just 1.1 seconds left on the clock. Despite the defeat, the Red Wolves finished the season with a program-record 25 wins, as well as their fifth appearance in the NIT and the first since 1991.

Junior forward Izaiyah Nelson led Arkansas State with 16 points and 14 rebounds, recording his 10th double-double of the season. Redshirt senior forward Kobe Julien added 15 points, while senior guard Taryn Todd scored all 12 of his points in the second half. North Texas, on the other hand, was led by Jasper Floyd and Latrell Jossell, who each scored 18 points.

North Texas never trailed in the game, but Arkansas State managed to tie the score at 63-all with a layup by Todd in the final seconds. However, North Texas secured the win with a last-second fadeaway jumper by Floyd. North Texas outshot Arkansas State with a .439 shooting percentage compared to the Red Wolves’ .365 percentage.

Despite the loss, Arkansas State put up a strong fight throughout the game and displayed resilience on the court. The Red Wolves were proud of their historic season and are looking forward to building on this success in future competitions.
