Rep. Crockett facing house censure resolution – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

U.S. Rep. Randy Weber (R-TX 14th District) carried out his promise to censure Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX 30th District) for her derogatory comments about Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. Crockett referred to Abbott as “Gov. Hot Wheels,” which angered conservatives. Weber called for her censure, despite Crockett insisting the comment was about Abbott’s policies, not his wheelchair use.

Weber officially filed the censure resolution against Crockett, accusing her of speaking inappropriately as a Member of Congress. The resolution mentioned discriminatory remarks and previous inappropriate comments made by Crockett in a hearing with other representatives. Abbott responded by criticizing Democrats for promoting hate.

Crockett tweeted about being silenced and the distraction caused by “Signal Gate.” Weber, representing the Gulf Coast region, and Crockett, representing part of Southern Dallas County, have differing opinions on the situation.

Censure is a public disciplinary action in Congress for disorderly conduct. If the majority vote in favor, the censured member must stand in the House while the rebuke is read. It does not remove the member from office or affect their rights. Weber remains determined to hold Crockett accountable for her comments, while Crockett vows to continue speaking out.
