Equal Pay Day is raising awareness about the wage gap between men and women, with Texas women earning 83 cents for every dollar men earn. According to the Texas Women’s Foundation, the wage gap has an annual impact of $60.1 billion in lost earnings and economic activity, increasing by 27% since 2019.
To address this issue, the foundation is partnering with the American Association of University Women to offer free virtual salary negotiation workshops called Work Smart. These workshops aim to help women evaluate their skills, understand their worth in the market, and negotiate for fair pay and benefits. The goal is to help women thrive and contribute to the Texas economy.
While Equal Pay Day mainly focuses on white women, the wage gap affects Black and Hispanic women as well, who have to work even longer to achieve equal pay. The Texas Women’s Foundation stresses the importance of investing in women to sustain the economic success of the state, as they play a significant role in the workforce and drive innovation.
As part of their mission, TXWF invests in women’s leadership development programs like #BestSelf for teens, the Young Women’s Initiative with IGNITE for college women, and networking groups for early to mid-career professionals. They also recognize outstanding women leaders through events like the Leadership Forum & Awards Celebration.
The foundation’s efforts aim to empower women, close the wage gap, and create a more equal and prosperous future for all in Texas.
