Dallas police have arrested a 17-year-old male, Andrew Gallegos, for the capital murder of 14-year-old Adam Gutierrez in East Oak Cliff earlier this month. The arrest was made by the U.S. Marshals’ Task Force on Monday morning. According to an arrest affidavit, Gutierrez and three females went to a home to sell Gallegos a THC vape pen. Gallegos claimed he needed change for the pen and after a few minutes, Gutierrez was sent a text message to go to the door where he was shot. The females heard the gunshot and left the area, only to find Gutierrez later dead in an alley with missing jewelry.
Both Gallegos and Gutierrez attended Molina High School in Dallas. The arrest warrant affidavit mentions a second unknown suspect who pointed a gun at the females, but it is unclear if police are searching for more suspects. Information for this article is from the Dallas Police Department, the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the U.S. Marshals. The community is shocked and saddened by this tragic event and hopes for justice for the victim and his family. The investigation into the case is ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.
