Governor Abbott Orders Texas Rangers to Investigate Proposed Development at Plano Islamic Center

A proposed Muslim-centric housing development in Collin County called EPIC City has sparked controversy and scrutiny from Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton. The development, planned by the East Plano Islamic Center, aims to create a community featuring homes, schools, businesses, and a mosque. However, concerns have been raised by local residents and lawmakers over the potential focus on a specific religious group.

Governor Abbott has directed the Texas Rangers to launch a criminal investigation into the East Plano Islamic Center, citing “serious legal issues” with the project. The Texas state securities board, workforce commission, funeral service commission, and attorney general are also conducting investigations into the development and its affiliated entities. In response to fears of Sharia law being imposed, Abbott and other lawmakers are taking action to prevent any violations of state law.

Residents attending the Collin County Commissioners Court meeting voiced their concerns about the development, with some citing potential housing discrimination and segregation. Real estate agents and community members stressed the importance of upholding fair housing laws and rejecting any form of segregation in neighborhoods.

While Community Capital Partners has not yet submitted an application for the development, the controversy surrounding EPIC City continues to draw attention from state leaders and residents. As investigations into potential legal violations unfold, the debate over religious focus and community integration in Collin County remains ongoing.
