Governor Abbott urges halt to construction at EPIC City, but developer clarifies work has not yet started

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has issued a warning to the East Plano Islamic Center and its associated entities regarding their planned EPIC City development. He stated that construction cannot begin until proper authorizations are obtained and permits granted. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality found that no applications or documents have been submitted for the project, and construction must cease until legal requirements are met.

The planned EPIC City development by Community Capital Partners aims to include homes, schools, a mosque, and other amenities on 402 acres. The developers have not yet submitted any project plans or started any construction. The state agency has sent a letter to EPIC and CCP outlining the necessary permits and authorizations that must be obtained.

Governor Abbott has directed several state agencies to investigate EPIC and its affiliates for potential criminal activities. Investigations are being conducted by the Texas Rangers, Attorney General Ken Paxton, the Texas State Securities Board, and other agencies. Concerns have been raised about the development’s compliance with state and federal regulations, including fair housing laws.

The developers of EPIC City have stated that they intend to follow all applicable rules and regulations and develop an inclusive community. They have invited Governor Abbott to learn more about the project and have yet to submit any permit applications. The timeline for presenting plans to county officials is uncertain, as the project is still in the planning phase.
