Two women have accused former Representative Matt Gaetz of paying them for sex, according to their lawyer. Gaetz resigned from Congress in November 2021 after being nominated by President Donald Trump for Attorney General. In a special election to fill Gaetz’s House of Representatives seat, Florida Republican Jimmy Patronis defeated Democrat Gay Valimont. This victory was critical for President Trump and the GOP due to their narrow majorities in Congress. Despite concerns over Valimont’s high fundraising numbers, Patronis secured the win with the help of Trump’s endorsement. Patronis expressed gratitude for Trump’s support and is committed to fixing the country. He had previously served as Florida chief financial officer but resigned from his position to run for Congress. Valimont had previously run against Gaetz in a House race and lost by a wide margin. Patronis will now represent Florida’s first congressional district, which includes areas like Pensacola and Destin.
