Bucky McMillan, a three-time Southern Conference Coach of the Year, has been named the 23rd men’s basketball head coach at Texas A&M. Known for his innovative “Bucky Ball” style of play, McMillan comes to the Aggies after a successful run at Samford University, where he led the Bulldogs to multiple SoCon championships and a school-record 29-win season.
McMillan will be officially introduced at a Welcome Event on Monday at Reed Arena, with free parking available and information on season tickets for the 2025-26 campaign. Texas A&M Director of Athletics Trev Alberts expressed excitement about McMillan’s leadership, praising his coaching approach and vision for the program.
McMillan’s high-octane style of play at Samford made the Bulldogs one of the most exciting teams in college basketball, ranking highly in scoring offense and defensive turnovers. Under his leadership, Samford earned its first NCAA Tournament berth in over two decades and had a perfect home court record.
Prior to his collegiate coaching career, McMillan achieved success at the high school level in Alabama, winning five state championships. A former player at Birmingham-Southern, McMillan was recognized for his academic achievements and commitment to the game.
As McMillan takes on this new challenge at Texas A&M, he brings a reputation for hard work, unselfishness, and fearlessness, qualities he will instill in the Aggies as they strive to compete at the highest levels of college basketball. With the support of the 12th Man behind them, the team aims to play a winning and exciting style of basketball under McMillan’s leadership.
