Tom Hanks’ Daughter E.A. Describes Her Childhood as Filled with ‘Violence’ – NBC New York

In a rare and candid memoir, Tom Hanks’ daughter, E.A. Hanks, has opened up about her childhood and her mother’s alleged abuse following her parents’ divorce in the 1980s. The 42-year-old accused her late mother, Susan Dillingham, of mistreating her and her brother, Colin Hanks, after relocating them from Los Angeles to Sacramento. According to E.A., her childhood home went from a picture-perfect white house to a place filled with smoke, dog feces in the backyard, and expired food in the fridge, with her mother spending more time in bed reading the Bible.

Despite the difficult circumstances, E.A. eventually moved back to Los Angeles during her high school years after the custody arrangement changed. She shared that her mother passed away in 2002 after battling bone cancer.

Tom Hanks, who rarely speaks about his divorce, described the breakup as a “horribly painful time” in a 2020 interview. He admitted that he felt he could have done better as a father during that period.

E.A.’s memoir, “The 10: A Memoir of Family and the Open Road,” has shed light on the challenges she faced growing up and the impact her parents’ divorce had on her. E! News reached out to Tom Hanks’ representative for comment but has not received a response regarding E.A. Hanks’ revelations.
