Katy Perry briefly ventures into space and kisses Earth upon her return

Pop star Katy Perry recently embarked on a journey to the edge of the cosmos with an all-women crew on one of Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin rockets. The flight took off from western Texas and ascended more than 60 miles above the Earth’s surface, surpassing the internationally recognized boundary of space. Other passengers on the flight included Bezos’s fiancee Lauren Sanchez and TV presenter Gayle King. Perry even sang “What a Wonderful World” in space during the 10-minute journey.

After safely landing back on Earth, Perry described the experience as a 10 out of 10 and emphasized the importance of love and inspiration. The all-women space crew, the first since 1963, also included film producer Kerianne Flynn, former NASA scientist Aisha Bowe, and Amanda Nguyen, founder of a campaign group against sexual violence. The mission marked the 11th sub-orbital crewed operation by Blue Origin, which has been offering space tourism experiences for several years.

The high-profile guests on the flight, including Perry and King, are intended to generate public interest in Blue Origin’s work as it competes with other firms in the space tourism field, such as Virgin Galactic and SpaceX. The company aims to eventually bring space tourists into orbit. The successful mission comes after Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket completed its first unmanned orbital mission in January. The experience was described as “weightless and limitless” by those who were on board, showcasing the possibilities and ambitions of space travel in the modern era.
