A shooting at Wilmer-Hutchins High School in Dallas on Tuesday afternoon has left at least four people hospitalized, with three of the victims suffering non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect is in custody, and authorities have confirmed there is no longer an active threat. The victims were taken to Baylor Scott & White Health, Parkland and Methodist Hospital Dallas in Oak Cliff. The suspect, believed to be a student, allegedly fired a gun inside the school campus.
Following the incident, Dallas ISD canceled classes at Wilmer-Hutchins High School for the rest of the week, with mental health clinicians available to assist students and staff. Governor Greg Abbott expressed his condolences and offered support to the victims and the school community.
This shooting comes almost a year after a targeted shooting at the high school in April 2024, which occurred in a classroom during a dispute. Following that incident, students staged a campus walkout to protest. The investigation into this recent shooting is ongoing, and officials are working to locate and arrest the suspect. The community is urged to join in praying for the swift recovery of the victims and the entire school community.
