Man convicted of murdering mother in Maryland

Rachel Morin, a mother of five, was brutally murdered in August 2023 while walking on a trail in Bel Air, Maryland. Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez, a man from El Salvador, was found guilty of first-degree murder, first-degree rape, third-degree sex offense, and kidnapping in her death. He had entered the U.S. without authorization after allegedly killing a woman in El Salvador and was linked to an assault in Los Angeles through DNA evidence.

Martinez-Hernandez was arrested in Oklahoma in June 2024 following a nationwide search. Prosecutors alleged that he had planned the attack on Morin and had concealed her body in culverts near the trail where she was beaten, raped, and killed. The case shook the Harford County community, and Martinez-Hernandez is facing life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Following his arrest, Martinez-Hernandez’s family spoke at the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, highlighting Morin’s case as an example of the consequences of open borders. They criticized President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for their immigration policies and praised President Donald Trump for his efforts to reform immigration policy and his support for the family.

Overall, Martinez-Hernandez’s conviction was the result of a lengthy investigation and trial that showcased the brutality of the crime and the devastating impact it had on Morin’s family and the community.
