Mark Wahlberg recently opened up about his experience filming his latest thriller, “Flight Risk.” In the movie, Wahlberg plays a hitman pretending to be a pilot targeting U.S. Marshal Madelyn (Michelle Dockery) and fugitive Winston (Topher Grace). Wahlberg revealed that he took a new approach to getting into character by staying in character the whole time on set, even when not shooting scenes.
This isn’t the first time Wahlberg has taken on a villain role, with his last one being in 1996’s “Fear.” Despite his intense focus on the role, Wahlberg apologized to his co-stars for not being engaging off-camera. The actor drew inspiration from iconic villains in movies like “The Shining” and “Cape Fear” for his character in “Flight Risk.”
Directed by Mel Gibson, Wahlberg praised the director’s ability to know exactly what he wanted while also being open to collaboration. The fast-paced shooting schedule of the film was also a new experience for Wahlberg, who had never shot a movie in just 22 days before. Wahlberg expressed his admiration for Gibson’s talent as a filmmaker and the opportunity to work with him.
“Flight Risk” marks the first time Wahlberg has starred in a movie directed by Mel Gibson, with whom he previously collaborated on “Father Stu” and “Daddy’s Home 2.” Wahlberg cited the script, director, and role as the three main components influencing his decision to take on this project.
