The Southeast Texas Coaches Association (SETCA) recently held its Hall of Honor Banquet to celebrate and induct four individuals who have made significant contributions to athletics in Southeast Texas. Delbert Spell, Tom Woolley, Scott Carter, and Gene “Trapper” McKinley were honored for their achievements.
Delbert Spell, a longtime coach at Nederland High School, spent over four decades coaching various sports and had the unique opportunity to coach his sons and grandsons during his tenure. Tom Woolley, known for his success in coaching girls’ basketball and softball, achieved great success at Bridge City High School with multiple district championships and playoff appearances.
Scott Carter concluded his coaching career at Port Neches-Groves High School, leading the baseball team to its first state championship in 2017 and achieving numerous district championships and playoff appearances throughout his tenure. Gene “Trapper” McKinley dedicated over 30 years to athletic training, ensuring the health and safety of athletes at various schools in Southeast Texas.
The Hall of Honor Banquet not only recognized these four individuals but also celebrated the coaching accomplishments from the previous year. The event highlighted the profound impact these inductees have had on Southeast Texas athletics, inspiring future generations to strive for excellence on and off the field.
