The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) assisted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with targeted enforcement actions in Texas on Sunday. The raids took place in Austin, Houston, San Antonio, Brownsville, and McAllen. Sally Sparks, a spokesperson for the DEA Houston Division, stated that the agency was working with the Department of Justice and other federal law enforcement partners to support ICE in their immigration enforcement efforts.
These raids come after President Donald Trump declared a national emergency on Jan. 20 and enacted multiple executive orders related to immigration. In response, the first group of active-duty military personnel arrived in El Paso and San Diego to enhance border security. However, no requests had been made to utilize military bases for housing migrants or to deploy troops for law enforcement purposes.
The collaboration between the DEA, DHS, and other federal agencies highlights the ongoing efforts to address immigration issues in Texas. The recent actions underscore the administration’s commitment to strengthening border security and enforcing immigration laws.
